In this edition of Look What COVID Made Me Do….

Every Friday night near my house, a Johnny Appleseed-like, Scottish-kilt wearing savior walks my neighborhood playing the bagpipes. When we learned about him a few weeks ago, hubs and I followed the bagpiper for 45 minutes. We walked slowly, played it cool when he stopped to serenade folks, and tried not to look like total creepers while casually ducking behind bushes at street corners. That bagpipe-stalking walk the best date we’ve had in years.

On the way home, I casually mentioned that I might, maybe, want to learn to play bagpipes. He was surprisingly encouraging, going so far as to tell me he thought I might be good. Hey, maybe you two can play a duet, he said.

Day 26: Lets Learn Bagpipes!

If you told me two months ago that I’d be knee deep in research about learning how to play the bagpipe, I would have knocked you upside the head with a cantor (which, for the uninitiated, is the bagpipe instrument part thingy). I’m not alone in a sudden change of heart. Today, lots of us are doing things we never would have considered before. Thanks to social media, I compiled a list of said things which I’m calling:

Look What COVID Made Me Do

  1. Having a kegerator in the driveway for the neighborhood and getting SO excited to chat from the deck when they refill. It’s not trashy, it’s quarantine classy.
  2. Thinking about binge watching Bob Ross and learning how to paint.
  3. Made my own sourdough starter.
  4. Took up hand embroidery.
  5. Cut my own hair.
  6. Ordering grocery delivery instead of walking across the street to QFC.
  7. I am going to build a boat.
  8. Letting my husband eat wheat and putting up with his farts.
  9. Wore a facemask while running… and cycling…
  10. I’ve actually inquired about horseback riding lessons. Have only ridden a horse 4x in my entire life.
  11. Set a new FKT in my backyard.
  12. Cook a batch of cookies instead of just eating the dough.
  13. Taking a stand up comedy class.
  14. Looking at building a rock climbing wall in and on my carport.
  15. Learning how to make a pour-over coffee (I don’t like or drink coffee).
  16. Agreed to grocery delivery picking my avocados and not me!!!
  17. Gaining 5lb and no facial for 6 weeks. My body feels like dough and my skin looks like a reptile… Lol.
  18. Harvested nettles and cooked them!
  19. Ran a half marathon.
  20. Trying to stick the “recommended serving” on snacks and chips….
  21. Looked for a ranch to buy.
  22. Took up knitting and LOVE IT.
  23. Built an entire new room onto my house, and I’m still going….
  24. Practiced crrevasse rescue with a stuffed bunny.
  25. Dropping $300 on groceries at a time like it’s no big deal.
  26. Start cycling! The spandex that makes my legs look like cellulite hotdogs! This is my new life.
  27. Learning to do a handstand.
  28. Organizing the Tupperware drawer and then re-organizing the shelves in the fridge.
  29. Never expected to answer a video call on behalf of my 9-year old daughter and say “I’m sorry. She’s in a meeting. I’ll have her call you back when she’s done in an hour.” A few minutes after that, she briefly left her meeting to ask when lunch would arrive. I told her it would arrive when she walked downstairs to get it. This meeting is not catered.
  30. Have a newborn.
